"As The End Approaches"
As everyone knows, the decisions are upon us. Many will be celebrating upon being admitted into MIT. Yet many more will be depressed at the sight of their rejection. Alas, the statistics say that most are rejected, and we all know this and must prepare for it.
Sadly, this is what we here at MyMIT.info are facing. We have eight prefrosh on our team, yet according to statistics, we may be forced apart. From the way I see it, only one of us may get in from the team if we are lucky. If we are extremely lucky, then two. Yet we are now coming to the realization that we have been living in a pipe dream of all eight of us making it in. MyMIT.info is about to change, and we all realize that.
We have garnered a huge support from the MIT community and have been featured in The Tech and on the MIT Admissions blogs. When I return from school everyday, I sign onto the MIT chat and watch it grow with people who also share an interest in MIT. The chat, which started on my own website, has now even been adapted into DidIGetIntoMIT.com. Who knew that a simple meeting of people in a chat, some random chatter about a hack, and then a month of work could turn into this?
I would like to extend thanks to the rest of the Hack Team. You guys are great friends and I hope to keep in contact with you guys after MIT.
To Randall Munroe, if you are reading this, thank you for your contribution to the site and for putting up with us as we asked you if you would be willing to do it. Honestly, your comic is still one of the largest draws to the site. Thank you for your help!
To Paul from the MIT Admissions Blogs, thank you for your support in the project. Your contributions have helped us tremendously.
To The Tech, thank you for publishing an article about our hack and even making a small reference to it in a later issue. We enjoyed it very much.
And to our readers, thank you for enjoying the hack. I personally read every comment on this site and enjoy the seeing the feedback on it. I hope to see all of you in the chat on Saturday during decisions!
I will post at least two more posts on this site, one at 2:00 PM EDT and one at 4:00 PM EDT. The former will be on decisions as a whole and the latter will be my announcement of my own fate. So keep a watch here on Saturday for these two posts.

Hey Colton, chill man! You may have read this already on Matt's blog but I'll post it here as I've found this poem really useful.
The work is done, the stage is set,
The decisions are made, not released yet,
We did our part, don’t you fret,
What you deserve, you will undoubtedly get!
If you’re admitted, CONGRATULATIONS!
Brighten your lives with deserved celebrations,
If you’re denied, don’t fall to desperations,
A brighter sun rises on the other horizon!
Remember friends the probabilities,
15600 applications for 1500 odd seats,
Only a tenth of us will get the treats,
Don’t forget, they aren’t the only sweets!
And Internationals, look at this,
120 seats is what it is,
But even if MIT gives a goodbye kiss,
You have your own country to reckon with.
MIT is a dream for us all, no doubt,
But it isn’t a place for such a large crowd,
Understandable reasons force them to say “OUT”,
Respect their decision, don’t call for a bout.
Rejection from MIT mustn’t lead to depression,
Rather, force you to seek salvation,
As the truth is now out in the open,
A brighter sun rises on the horizon!
Don't worry. Take it in your stride and even if you guys are separated, you'll always be together!

Colton,
Dude, I wish you the best of luck (and everyone else.. all the hackers and everyone involved in the site.. for that matter)
I'll be there with you guys on the "dreaded" Pi day. So count me in.
Just wanted to say good job with the site. It's been great. And I hope that the statistics are wrong. I too hope to see everyone on the prefrosh team to be admitted.
I will be wishing you all the very best.. till then =]

Pranav-Schrodinger Theorem : "The person who shall not stay in touch, irrespective of his decision, shall be beaten black and blue. She/He shall be reminded of Schrodinger's Cat."

@Colton
This ain't the end. It's the beginning . . .

All I can say is...
...don't panic?

I don't personally know how many international students you have on this site out of the 8 (5:3 :: international:domestic?)
As unfair as it might sound, the domestics have a much stronger chance of getting in and I think it's quite possible that 2/3 will get in on the domestic side, whereas it might be 1/5 on the international side.
Not to be pessimistic, but I do agree with you when you say that you doubt all 8 will get in. To have all the international students get in will truly be an amazing feat that defies all odds (not to belittle your personal achievements, which I'm sure is amazing - it's just with the admission rate so low now it's just statistically unfavored).
I think what would be the most difficult is the transition of omgmitismydream!! to "i might have to seek out a different school" if the decision is an unfavorable one.
I wish you guys all the luck! Your drive and motivation towards MIT really impressed me.

colton,
i know your birthday was 9 days ago, about one and half year ago i printed a harry potter photo on an A4 paper, four photos all the same, all size of fitting into my wallet. i never used three of them. one of them is here with me. you know where to email your address to me, i would send you the one which is with me. but remember that's a tresure for me and it looks very old.

Colton, I just want to say that I think you have the best shot, and if you get in, I can't wait to see what kind of hacks you'll do when you attend MIT for real.
(not that we should ever find out who the organizers were of any of your hacks XP)
Posted by: Narce on March 12, 2009 10:03 PM
There were hacks????????!!!!!
Lol. If anyone asks IDK what you are talking about Narce. But if no one is asking i'd like to see the dome on a dome...
Posted by: corey on March 13, 2009 03:03 AM
roflmao, the fact that there are hacks is not the part that anyone is worried about.
Now, if you were to ask who is RESPONSIBLE for the hacks, the answer might as well be "they happened on their own, right?" XP
I agree, we have to work on that "put the dome ON the dome" project.
Posted by: Narce on March 13, 2009 08:03 AM
Yeah, the "dome on the dome" definitely has to happen.

Hmm, I thought he was one of the RA applicants... the above just led me to read your blog, Colton~ But deferred people can still get in! I really hope my friend from school does too~my one academic rival in my whole city ;.;
Ah, but I strongly disagree with your Dec. 18 entry. I think submitting it the last day is the best, because it gives you time to edit your application until you feel it's as good as possible until the last minute. If the my mit website goes down, they extend the deadline. If your own internet goes down, find another place with internet.
I redid my entire "main" essay from scratch, finished about 4 hours before the EA deadline, and submitted that, for example.

Good luck everyone, especially all of you on the mymit team!! Your hack was awesome and I hope that I'll get to meet you all at CPW!

Colton, Good LUCK! I will be coming back to see what happens. I hope you get in and do all those hacks you could have done at MIT. :)
